About Me & Birthlight

My path to yoga began in London in 1995 after many years of classical and contemporary dance training. During a period of profound personal change, yoga became much more than a physical practice. On the mat, I discovered a sense of presence, inner calm, and connection that transformed my life and set me on a new path.

After completing my yoga teacher training in Australia in 2003, I specialised in prenatal and postnatal yoga. Since 2004, I have been supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postnatal recovery in Zürich. Teaching, sharing knowledge, and helping others feel healthier, happier, and more connected to themselves is my greatest passion. I feel deeply grateful to do work that brings meaning and joy to my life and to accompany women through some of life's most profound transitions.

My approach combines movement, breath, body awareness, and over 20 years of experience to provide compassionate, individual support, helping each woman find her own path towards greater health, balance, and wellbeing.

Simple, Safe, Attentive

Every class I teach is shaped by one simple idea: small groups, real attention, genuine care. I want every woman who comes through the door to feel safe, seen and accepted — at whatever stage she is in.

From Birthlight yoga I take the joy of simply being. Simple, safe movements, micro-movements, sound and stillness.

The Birthlight story

Katia began teaching Prenatal Yoga at Holistikum in Zollikon in 2004 and in 2005 joined Cheryl Bernardi to help build Birthlight Zürich. In 2007 Birthlight became a limited company. Over the years it grew into a thriving community supported by a dedicated team.

By 2019, Birthlight Zürich had expanded significantly, with six to seven teachers and therapists contributing to the project. Following the 2020 pandemic and changing birth rates, the business became smaller again - a change that has allowed Katia to return to what she loves most: teaching, listening, and sharing in smaller groups with personal attention.

Through gentle movement, breath, sound, relaxation, and stillness, Katia aims to create an environment where women can reconnect with themselves, trust their bodies, and find support at every stage of their journey.
